Those interested in how life looked like on Croatia’s coast over a century ago can get a closer look thanks to an exhibition opened at the Croatian Museum of Tourism in Opatija yesterday…

The exhibition titled “Pictures of the Adriatic Coast” – Rieger (1845) – Kaser (1900) – Ignatoski (2008) is divided into three parts and presents works by three authors, each with their own approach to the topic.

The first part presents lithographs of Adriatic coast panoramas by the aquarellist Giuseppe Rieger of Trieste (published in Trieste in two parts in 1845 and 1850).

The central part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Viennese photographer Karl Kaser. For the first time in Croatia, this section presents his photographs from his repeated journeys along the eastern Adriatic coast in the period from the end of the 19th century until the beginning of World War One.

The third part is dedicated to recent video footage of the Croatian coast taken from a distance of 200 m by Vlatko Ignatoski (a project that began in 2008).

The author of the exhibition is the senior curator Mirjana Kos. (Croatian Tourism Museum)
